The Core
Temperature Sites

Understanding the differences can help you choose the most reliable option for you and your family.

  • Rectal is considered the gold standard for core temperature measurement
  • Oral is the next most reliable followed by Axillary (underarm), all backed by clinical studies
  • Alternative measuring sites, such as the Forehead, are not clinically accurate. Factors like air movement, humidity, battery life, and even how far the thermometer is held from the skin can lead to inaccurate results.
